The TOEIC test (TEST OF ENGLISH FOR INTERNATIONAL COMMUNICATION™) measures proficiency in international business English, at intermediate to advanced levels. With more than 4.5 million test takers per year, the TOEIC test is the global standard for measuring English proficiency. Besides the Listening and Reading test, the TOEIC test now includes the Speaking and Writing tests, allowing for a comprehensive evaluation of a student’s language skills.

The TOEIC test is used as a certification tool in more than 5000 companies worldwide. TOEIC^® Practice Online: Speaking and Writing is an online resource that helps students gauge and practise their speaking and writing skills. It is the official practice test for the TOEIC^® Speaking and Writing tests. It simulates the real testing environment and aids in familiarisation with the internet-based testing format. The test is accessible 24/7 from anywhere, and is scored by ETS trained raters who provide detailed feedback within 10 working days.

This resource is an effective support tool for planning, implementing, and monitoring language training. It provides detailed feedback that can help identify areas where further instruction is required.

The TOEIC Bridge test measures English proficiency in listening and reading at beginner to intermediate levels. It is a reliable and valid assessment that is internationally recognised, and has proved to be a good motivational tool to encourage beginners to proceed to the next level. It can also be used as a developmental tool, administered a number of times to assess the real progress of students in English language learning.

The TOEFL iBT (Internet-Based Testing) incorporates an integrated-skills approach to simulate real-life academic environments. The TOEFL iBT:

• Measures four skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking
• Uses integrated tasks that are more reflective of what we do with language in the real world, and results in a better measure of ability to participate successfully in an academic environment
• Is used by more than 6000 universities in the world as a criterion for admission
• Can be used to gauge students’ current proficiency levels to place them in appropriate language courses

TOEFL^® Practice Online (TPO) is an official resource to help students practise their English language skills, and do their best on the TOEFL iBT. This web-based practise tool uses actual questions from previously administered TOEFL tests, thus simulating the real testing experience. It offers targeted practise on specific skills, and is accessible online 24/7. It functions as an accurate predictor of performance on the TOEFL iBT.

The TOEFL ITP (Institutional Testing Programme) derived from the paper-based TOEFL^® test has been especially developed for internal use. As such, institutions can use it to measure language skills of students in order to see where their academic English level is at, and to place them in remedial language classes. It is ideal to include the TOEFL ITP in your programme as:

• It is convenient – you can administer it anytime, on your own facilities, using your own staff, to groups of students of any size
• It functions as a mock exam that is an accurate predictor of performance on the secure TOEFL test
• It can be used to assess the progress of students, since it can be administered easily any number of times
• It acts as a motivational tool for students wishing to improve their level of English

Since the TOEFL ITP test forms have been administered before, and are not fully secure, they should not be used in place of TOEFL scores themselves.

The TOEFL^® Accelerator™ learning solution is a powerful tool that combines test preparation and targeted skills practice. It is designed to be used in an instructor-led learning environment to help students at varying skill levels prepare for the TOEFL iBT.  The test preparation and skills practice modules asses and provide practice, respectively, on the 4 skills measured by the TOEFL iBT, using content from previously administered TOEFL tests. The listening, reading and writing sections are scored immediately; ETS trained raters score the writing section, providing detailed feedback within a few days. Teachers can apply both components of the TOEFL Accelerator to tailor instruction to students’ individual needs.

The TFI test (Test de Français International) is a French language proficiency test for non-native speakers of French. It measures and certifies the French skills of people working in a professional context, from beginner to advanced levels. Spoken by over 170 million people everyday, French is widely used in international and business communication.

HR managers and recruiters determine minimum language requirements for specific jobs, and use TFI scores to see which candidates fulfil those requirements. Taking the TFI test enables students to validate their French language proficiency, and to compare their level against the requirements of the business environment. In many universities where French is mandatory, a TFI score is vital as an entry criterion.

The Criterion Online Writing Evaluation service is an innovative tool that supports learning in the classroom by allowing students to practise and improve their writing skills in a non-test environment. Academic institutions use the tool to assign topics for essay writing; the Criterion service provides holistic scores and diagnostic feedback in evaluating these. It also suggests a list of topics for writing, depending on the educational level of the students. It is an online tool that is easy to use and can be accessed from anywhere.
